AUSTIN — Steve Patterson’s turbulent tenure as athletic director at Texas appears to be coming to an end.
Citing a source, the Austin American-Statesman reported Texas president Greg Fenves is expected to fire Patterson after meeting scheduled for Tuesday. Such a move would end Patterson’s reign over one of the nation’s wealthiest athletic department after only 22 months.
Multiple UT sources, including a coach within the department, said Tuesday morning they were scrambling to find out if the reports of the firing were true. A university spokesman said Fenves “does not discuss the nature of his private conversations.
