Conger places fifth in 200m butterfly at World Championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Texas-Ex Jack Conger capped a second consecutive summer at a major international championship with a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter butterfly Wednesday night at the 17th FINA World Championships.

Conger, the lone American in the men's 200m butterfly final, placed fifth overall in 1 minute, 54.88 seconds. Chad Le Clos of South Africa won gold in 1:53.33 while Laszlo Cseh of host Hungary took the silver in 1:53.72. Japan's Daiya Seto won bronze in 1:54.21.

Conger qualified for the final on Tuesday with his fifth-place showing in the 200m butterfly semifinals.
