Football coach Charlie Strong reiterated that he would like to name a starting quarterback early in preseason camp.
"As soon as we possibly can because we play a tough [opening] opponent right way with Notre Dame," Strong said at Big 12 meetings Tuesday in Phoenix. "We need to make the decision so we can get the quarterback ready."
Freshman Shane Buechele of Arlington Lamar, coming off a strong spring game, is challenging senior Tyrone Swoopes and sophomore Jerrod Heard.
