The Latest: Marin Cilic Out of Australian Open in 3rd Round

MELBOURNE, Australia — The latest from the Australian Open on Friday (all times local):

10:30 p.m.

Former U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic has been defeated in the third round at Melbourne Park, beaten 6-4, 7-6 (5), 7-5 by Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain.

The 12th-seeded Cilic, who won the U.S. Open in 2014, had a 2-0 career record against Bautista Agut, both on hard courts. The win moved Bautista Agut into the round of 16 here to equal his best tournament — and Grand Slam — performance.

The 24th-seeded Bautista Agut will play either Nick Kyrgios or sixth-seeded Tomas Berych in the next round.
