Laura Siegemund wins maiden WTA title in Bastad

World No.40 Laura Siegemund of Germany lifted her first champion's trophy today at the Ericsson Open in Bastad, Sweden, overcoming 92nd-ranked qualifier Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic in the title match.

Earlier this year Siegemund played her first WTA final at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in her home town of Stuttgart, losing it to compatriot Angelique Kerber, who was top seed at this week's Bastad tournament, but had to withdraw due to an elbow injury sustained in the first round.

In the final against Siniakova, Siegemund was handed a love break in the seventh game of the first set, but in the following game her own mistakes allowed her opponent to level to 4-all.
