Kvitova wins New Haven for the third time in four years

After Caroline Wozniacki's reign in New Haven from 2008 to 2011, Petra Kvitova overtook the event, winning the title in the three of four years that followed, 2012, 2014 and 2015, while in 2013 the world No.5 finished runner-up. In today's all-Czech final, Kvitova beat Lucie Safarova and is now 7-0 in career meetings with the compatriot.

Five of those seven matches featured tiebreaks, including today's encounter in which the first set, after twelve holds, had to be decided in a tiebreak. The fourth-seeded Safarova won that tiebreak, but overall Kvitova proved to be a stronger one, finishing the match 6-7(6) 6-2 6-2, without dropping serve even once.
