Canadian women win maiden Billie Jean King Cup title at the 2023 Finals in Seville

In the opening singles, teenager Marina Stakusic recorded her career-best win against world No.43 Martina Trevisan, 7-5 6-3, to give Canada a 1-0 lead in Seville. Afterwards, Leylah Fernandez fired Canada into an unassailable lead with a commanding 6-2 6-3 victory over Jasmine Paolini.

Under the leadership of captain Heidi El Tabakh, Canada has become the 13th nation to claim the Billie Jean King Cup, marking the second new champion in as many years since Switzerland’s victory in Glasgow 12 months ago.

Fernandez, Stakusic, Rebecca Marino, Eugenie Boucard, and Gabriela Dabrowski have made history with their remarkable achievement.
