A Tennessee woman believed that she was communicating with Tennessee cornerback Cam Sutton on the social media platform Snapchat. Instead, it was a man impersonating Sutton who was trying to extort money.
Brandon Douglas Shanahan, 22, is said to have used the Snapchat handle “Camsutton2323” and threatened to “injure her reputation,” WBIR-TV in Knoxville reported. Police said in a statement that Sutton was not aware the Snapchat account existed and has not conversed with the woman.
Shanahan pleaded not guilty to the extortion charge and was released on bond. Investigators believe this practice was attempted on other women.
