Tennessee looks to use South Carolina game to start stretch run strong

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — After two consecutive losses going into its bye last week, Tennessee’s game this Saturday at South Carolina could serve as a jumping-off point in a season that still has plenty of promise.

In each of coach Butch Jones’ first three seasons, the Volunteers beat the Gamecocks for wins that pushed ahead the program.

During Jones’ first season, in 2013, Tennessee won 23-21 over a Steve Spurrier-led South Carolina team ranked No. 11 in Knoxville. It was the Vols’ first win over a ranked opponent in four years.

The following season, Tennessee visited South Carolina having lost five of its past six games.
