2015 NFL Draft: Tennessee Titans Select QB Marcus Mariota

With the second pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans have selected Marcus Mariota out of Oregon.

Position: Quarterback

Measurables: 6’4”, 222 lbs, 32” arm length, 9 ⅞” hands

Analysis:

Mariota’s 2014 season was without parallel, with a laundry list of awards to his credit including the Heisman Trophy,Maxwell Award, Davey O’ Brien National QB Award, and the nomination as Associated Press Player of the Year (among many others). In his 41 career starts, Mariota threw 105 touchdowns against just 14 interceptions, showcasing a knack for on-field decision making beyond his years. His athletic prowess is also elite for a quarterback, as he posted a 36” vertical leap and 4.52 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine.

Possessing a natural straight-line speed that is almost unparalleled at QB both on the college level and in the pros, Mariota uses his quickness to shed defenders with relative ease while keeping his eyes downfield on his progressions. Able to make a multitude of throws when limited by space and encroaching defenders, Mariota has an innate ability to choose the right option between breaking for daylight and holding for a throw. A born leader despite his quiet reputation, the Hawaii native has both the athletic gifs and mental acumen to play at an elite level in the pros.
