BOSTON -- The Rays are expected to call up infielder Richie Shaffer from Triple-A Durham before Monday's road game against the White Sox.
Left-hander Matt Moore will be optioned to Durham on Monday, which will leave an open spot on the 25-man roster. Because the Rays have a number of off-days in the coming weeks, they have the luxury of being able to use a four-man rotation. Thus, the Rays can fill Moore's vacated spot with an offensive player.
Given the Rays' offensive struggles this season -- particularly in the power department -- Shaffer will be a welcome addition.
