ST. PETERSBURG — Matt Moore knows Joey Rickard from a few offseasons working out together and from the month they spent last season as teammates at Triple-A Durham.
This is what Moore knows of Rickard:
“He’s a tough out.”
Rickard, the former Rays prospect who went to the Orioles in December in the Rule 5 draft, proved Moore right Wednesday night at Moore’s expense.
The rookie left fielder drove a three-run homer deep into the left-field seats in the fifth inning for all the runs the Orioles would need in a 3-1 victory in front of 11,850 fans at Tropicana Field.
