Loney lands on DL with broken finger

Rays

ST. PETERSBURG — 1B James Loney said he will be out four-to-six weeks with a fracture in his left middle finger, a blow that impacts the Rays as much offensively as it does defensively.

Rays manager Kevin Cash said INF Logan Forsythe will see considerable playing time at first base in Loney’s absence, while OF David DeJesus and Forsythe take turns batting cleanup, Loney’s spot in the lineup.

“That’s probably the biggest blow,” Cash said. “He’s a guy who hits right in the middle of the lineup. We know he’s going to be down for some time, so we’re going to have to call on some guys to help out and fill that void a little bit.
