Backed by three Rays homers, Archer gets his 12th win

BALTIMORE — Two teams with fading playoff hopes got together Monday at Camden Yards for the start of a three-game series.

You had the Tampa Bay Rays, who are treading water in the wild card standings having split their previous 10 games, and the Baltimore Orioles. the defensing AL East champs who entered the night having lost 10 of their last 11.

“Both teams are doing everything they can to crawl back into this wild card spot,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said.

With not much time remaining in the regular season and plenty of teams to catch, the Rays and Orioles went about their business of trying to remain relevant on a comfortable night in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
