WASHINGTON — In less than 24 hours, Steven Stamkos was able to slip in and out of his hometown of Toronto without having to deal with the hype and hoopla surrounding him and his pending free-agent status at the end of the season.
Playing on the second night of a back-to-back, Stamkos did not arrive at Air Canada Centre until it was time to get ready for the game and spoke with the media for roughly 4 minutes after the game. He was asked about his future and all the buzz surrounding a possible return to his hometown of Toronto.
