Jon Cooper sees reasons for optimism following Game 1 loss

A day after the Tampa Bay Lightning fell 3-2 to Detroit in Game 1 of the Bolts’ First Round series, Lightning head coach Jon Cooper, having had a chance to look over the game video, was still pleased with his team’s effort.

The Lightning had 46 shots to Detroit’s 14 but couldn’t put the puck past rookie goaltender Petr Mrazek, who made a career-high 44 saves to beat the Bolts.

Cooper, however, felt his team could have created more traffic in front of Mrazek’s net to get the 23-year-old goalie out of his comfort zone.

“Part of the problem was we let Mrazek see a lot of (the 46 shots),” Cooper said.
