What does getting back 1 scholarship mean to Syracuse's basketball program?

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse University officials appealed three of the NCAA's four sanctions against the school's basketball program. One appeal was denied, one delayed and only one was measurably successful.

The NCAA reduced its scholarship penalty against Syracuse, dropping the number from three scholarships a year for the next four years to just two scholarships a year over the next four years.

The NCAA allows schools to award up to 13 men's basketball scholarships annually. Syracuse would have been down to a maximum of 10 scholarship players under the original decision. Now, Syracuse can carry 11 scholarship players starting this season and extending through the 2018-19 season.
