Clint Dempsey, Jozy Altidore on U.S. Player of Year award shortlist

Jozy Altidore, Clint Dempsey, Bobby Wood, Michael Bradley and Geoff Cameron are the players on the five-man shortlist for the 2016 U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year award, which will be announced on Dec. 9.

Seattle's Dempsey, a three-time winner, last picked up the prize back-to-back in 2011 and 2012 and will miss the MLS Cup final due to an irregular heartbeat.

Altidore, who collected the honor in 2013, will take the field for Toronto FC and managed a team-high six goals and two assists for his country this year, and his club teammate and captain Bradley, 2015's Male Player of the Year, has put in a number of fine performances in midfield.
