Stanford Cardinal Spring Game: 3 Things We Learned

The Stanford Cardinal finished off the 2015 spring practice session with it's annual spring game at Stanford Stadium. There was plenty to glean from the battle between the Cardinal and White squads (White ended up winning 23-7), and we're here to give you the highlights with 3 Things We Learned From The Stanford Cardinal Spring Game.

1. The Retooled Defense Is Linebacker Heavy

The maturity and smarts of the Cardinal's corps of linebackers was on display on Saturday, as both sides seamlessly executed both in the pass rush and in coverage. While the defensive lines were shaky against the pass and the secondary still has plenty of question marks, Stanford is stacked at linebacker for years to come.

2. Stanford Is Ready To Employ A Pro-Style Spread

Are you ready for a pass-heavy spread offense built less around the run and more on the work of tight ends and slot receivers? That's what you're likely to get from the 2015 Stanford Cardinal if Saturday was any indication. The wide receivers need some reps to get into sync in this style of offense, but the pieces are there to make it work (especially when Devon Cajuste is fully featured).

3. The Special Teams...Needs Work

Other than one good punt, the kicking game was dreadful both from a place-kicking and punting standpoint. Part of that was protection issues, but it's still a sign of major issues that need to be addressed in practice before the season starts full bore.
