Shutout streak ends with barrage of Brewers homers

MILWAUKEE • The Cardinals streak of scoreless innings ending two outs shy of 40 consecutive zeroes and do so with an unexpected show of power from the bottom of the Brewers' lineup.

Elian Herrera homered on a 2-2 pitch from John Lackey to put the Brewers ahead 1-0 and bring an end to the Cardinals' shutout stretch. Khris Davis added a two-run shot later in the inning to put the Brewers ahead 3-0 going into the fourth inning.

The Cardinals went 39 1/3 innings without allowing a run.

The '43 team went 42 innings without allowing a run, though the 39 1/3-inning streak did go one out further than the 2013 team's.
