When the Cardinals return to Busch Stadium on Thursday to start a series against Pittsburgh, they’ll be greeted by a catcher who has intensified and expanded the scope of his workouts since last they saw him. Molina offered a teaser of his improvement on social media — a video of him, in all of his catching gear, receiving pitches while resting on one knee. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said the catcher has been cleared for all baseball activities and that he could be appearing in rehab games “pretty soon.”
In the coming days the Cardinals will discuss with Molina and medical officials what his next significant step will be.
