For the second consecutive day, Yadier Molina was listed in the Cardinals' initial starting lineup.
For the second consecutive day, his sore knee has not loosened up as much as expected. Molina is out of Saturday's game and will be replaced at catcher by Eric Fryer.
Manager Mike Matheny described Molina's injury, which resulted from a foul ball hitting his knee in Thursday's loss to the Phillies, as inflammation resulting from a contusion. He said
"Trying to control the swelling and get the range of motion back," Matheny said. "Back there, not being able to stay in that upright, squatted position to move around is really limiting yourself from being able to do your job.
