DeWitt: If involved, Cards officials 'will be held accountable'

MINNEAPOLIS • In sternly worded statements released Wednesday afternoon by the Cardinals, chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. and general manager John Mozeliak acknowledged the investigation of possible hacking into a rival team's internal database and said such conduct by Cardinals employees does not reflect "who we are as an organization."

The FBI and Justice Department are investigating the Cardinals' front office for a possible unlawful entry into the Houston Astros' baseball operations database and having access to rummage through proprietary information.

In the statement, Cardinals lawyer Jim Martin of the law firm Dowd Bennett says the inquiry is not complete.
