LOS ANGELES • As much attention as Aledmys Diaz’s spot in the batting order continues to get for how low it is despite how high his average is, the bigger commitment for the Cardinals all along has been the position he plays.
As Diaz has toyed with a .400 average, the Cardinals have been able to get his glove experience at shortstop because of all the production from his bat.
He led the league in errors.
He also led the league in slugging.
Diaz has improved defensively with all the playing time, and it’s a tradeoff the Cardinals have been willing to make.
