Banister, in his first year with the Rangers, took over a team that had gone 67-95 and finished in last place in the American League West in 2014. Texas turned it around to go 88-74 and capture the sixth division title in club history.
The Rangers were nine games out on July 22 and eight games out on Aug. 2. But from that point forward, they won 37 of 58 games, becoming only the sixth team since division play began in 1969 to finish in first place after trailing by as many as eight games in August.
