Wainwright likely has Achilles injury

MILWAUKEE • Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak, while not wanting to speculate too much, acknowledged that injured righthander Adam Wainwright likely has an Achilles injury, although the severity will be determined by an Magnetic Resonance Imaging exam he will have on Monday morning in St. Louis.

"We'll know for sure tomorrow," said Mozeliak by telephone Sunday morning from St. Louis. But he said the information he had received from the team's medical staff Saturday night pointed to an Achilles injury.

Wainwright, who had pitched four scoreless innings, had been hurt leaving the batter's box in the fifth inning after he had hit a short popup to first base.
