Infielder Greg Garcia, recalled from Memphis, will join newly acquired first baseman/outfielder Brandon Moss (Cleveland) on the Cardinals' roster Thursday night for the start of a four-game series with Colorado.
As expected, outfielder Matt Holliday, was placed on the 15-day disabled list for the second time this season with a right quadriceps strain suffered when he was running out a double play ball in the first inning on Wednesday. Lefthanded-hitting first baseman Dan Johnson also was designated for assignment.
The lefthanded-hitting Garcia, batting .299 (.354 against righthanders) with a .404 on-base percentage at Memphis, hit .417 in 12 at-bats earlier this season for the Cardinals.
