Cards recall Easley to take injured Adams' spot

Veteran minor league catcher Ed Easley has been recalled by the Cardinals from Class AAA Memphis to take the roster spot of first baseman Matt Adams, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of a strained right quadriceps suffering running out a double on Tuesday night.

Easley was batting .295 with three homers and 18 runs batted in at Memphis but was hitting .340 in May. The 29-year-old never has appeared in a big-league game although he was on the roster for three days in April while catcher Tony Cruz was on paternity leave.
