Cardinals are stuck in a rut

The players’ vote for the pitchers and reserves on the All-Star teams was completed last weekend. But Cardinals ace Michael Wacha pitched another gem Friday, just in case polls on the outskirts still were open.

Facing the San Diego Padres for the first time, Wacha held them to just one run, Jedd Gyorko’s homer, and five hits over seven innings as he sought to become the second 11-game winner in the majors. But, for the fourth night in succession, the Cardinals’ offense was MIA.

And the Cardinals’ other likely pitching All-Star, reliever Trevor Rosenthal, had his scoreless streak of 23 2/3 innings come to a halt when the Padres pushed across a run in the ninth, sending the Cardinals to their fourth straight loss, 2-1.
