Sporting KC trades Dom Dwyer to Orlando City SC

Dom Dwyer’s exuberant, marketable, record-setting tenure with Sporting Kansas City has come to an end.

Sporting KC on Tuesday traded Dwyer to Orlando City SC, league sources told The Star. Sporting will receive $1.6 million in allocation money, $700,000 of which is incentives that Dwyer must reach through the end of the contract. A league source said most of the incentives are easily attainable.

If Dwyer reaches all incentives, the compensation Sporting will receive will be more than double the largest financial fee a team has ever received in MLS history.

Dwyer’s contract is set to expire with a club option after the conclusion of the 2018 season, when he will be due a raise as one of the league’s most consistent goal scorers.
