Sporting KC gets 3-1 victory over Central FC but can’t advance in Champions League play

The upshot of a victory absent, Sporting Kansas City coach Peter Vermes enlisted a lineup Wednesday with a different purpose.

Evaluation.

With Sporting KC already mathematically eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions League group stage, Vermes opted for a chance to measure deeper into his roster.

After an especially lackluster opening half, forward Cameron Porter and midfielder Nansel Selbol seized the opportunity.

Porter and Selbol paired together their first career Sporting KC goals in a six-minute span, the difference in a 3-1 victory Wednesday against Trinidad and Tobago-based Central FC.

Connor Hallisey added his first career Sporting KC goal in the 91st minute via penalty kick.
