A pair of home runs and a well-placed ground ball highlighted Southern Miss’ 13-3 run-rule shortened win over Marshall Sunday.

The eight-inning victory clinched the series for Scott Berry’s club, which improved to 19-5 overall and 5-1 in Conference USA. The Thundering Herd drops to 11-10 and 3-3.

In the rubber match of the series versus league mate Marshall, the Golden Eagles got back-to-back long balls from Dylan Burdeaux and Daniel Keating to help them jump out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. In Southern Miss’ four-run fourth, Mason Irby laced a bounding grounder down the third base line that cleared the previously loaded bases.
