Southern Miss will move on into the 2018 season without its top starting pitcher.
Kirk McCarty has signed a contract with the Cleveland Indians after the organization made him their seventh-round pick in last week's MLB Draft. McCarty did well on the deal, Baseball America's Jim Callis reported — he received a $250,000 signing bonus, more than $60,000 above the slot bonus assigned to pick No. 222.
