Irby keys Golden Eagles comeback win

Mason Irby delivered a two-out, game-tying, run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday.

The Southern Miss junior, down to his final strike, stroked the base hit to right field, tying the game 5-5. The ball got past Florida Atlantic right fielder David Miranda, allowing Irby to motor around to third base.

Two pitches later, Irby scampered home on a wild pitch by the Owls’ Cameron Ragsdale to give the Golden Eagles a 6-5 victory at Pete Taylor Park. The win, Southern Miss’ sixth in a row, secures the series and extends the 20th-ranked Golden Eagles’ lead in Conference USA to three games over the Owls.
