Bower credits success at USM for CFP appointment

HATTIESBURG - Since his final season as football coach at Southern Miss in 2007, Jeff Bower has spent much of his time enjoying life away from the game.

Now, he's back.

The Golden Eagle legend was one of four new appointees named to the 12-member College Football Playoff selection committee Thursday. In addition to Bower, Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens, former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr and former Central Michigan coach and athletic director Herb Deromedi were also announced as members by CFP executive director Bill Hancock.

The new members, who will serve three-year terms, will replace Southern California athletic director Pat Haden, former Nebraska coach Tom Osborne, former Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese and former Air Force Academy superintendent Mike Gould.
