Southampton were brought crashing to reality following their EFL Cup triumph over Arsenal as they slumped to their heaviest defeat of manager Claude Puel's tenure, losing 3-0 at crisis club Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Christian Benteke's double (aided by some shocking goalkeeping from Fraser Forster) and James Tomkins' finish from a corner left Puel with a face like thunder in the dugout. The managerl did his best to shift the blame from his players by bemoaning the state of the Selhurst Park pitch but there was no escaping the fact this was a woeful performance from Southampton.
