A somber procession accompanied by "Amazing Grace" marked the start of a memorial mass on Monday for the teenager who was killed last week when he and five others were in a boat that struck a low-lying bridge along a Fort Lauderdale waterway.
John Baker, 17, was to begin his senior year at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Baker died about midnight Thursday at the scene of the boat crash near North Dixie Highway and Northeast 18th Court. He suffered severe head and neck injuries, according to Broward Medical Examiner's Office.
The other teens hurt in the crash were: Emily Giusti, Chris Gernert, Kevin Hurst, Sean Mahoney and George Marshall.
