Shepherd, a Fort Lauderdale native, advanced with 12 others by clearing the height of 17 feet, 2.75 inches (5.25m). Shepherd was the fifth person to go up-and-over at that height, but had a feeling it would be enough.
“I knew I got in,” said Shepherd.
It was a thrilling performance for a man who constantly seeks out thrills.
