Man accused of killing pregnant sister in fight over electric bill now in custody, police say

An argument over an electric bill turned deadly when a Fort Lauderdale man began punching his sister, police say.

It happened at 7:29 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of Northwest 13th Court, according to a Fort Lauderdale Police Department news release.

Willie Ward, 25, punched his sister Jaquinda Wright, 29, twice in her head, causing her to collapse, police said. She was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

According to police, Wright was pregnant when she died and that could ultimately affect the charges against Ward.

“We do know she was indeed pregnant, however the decision on whether or not he’ll face additional charges has not been made yet," Fort Lauderdale Police Capt.
