A 13-year-old Fort Lauderdale boy was to undergo eye surgery in Miami Thursday after being critically injured in a fireworks accident that also blew off his right hand, his mother said.
Javonte McNair, a 7th grader at Sunrise Middle School who plays youth football with the Northwest Broward Raiders, was injured about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday as he rode his bicycle in the 1600 block of Northwest Ninth Avenue, according to Theresa McNair.
