Custody charge against mom in circumcision battle to be dropped in a year

A deal approved in court Thursday halts the criminal prosecution of Heather Hironimus, the West Boynton mom who in May signed a form consenting to the circumcision that the boy's father wanted of her 4-year-old son.

Hironimus, 31, was charged with interference of custody, a third-degree felony, from her months of hiding with the boy in a Broward County domestic violence shelter until her May 14 arrest.

That charge will be dismissed in 12 months if Hironimus successfully completes probation and other conditions, in an agreement she and defense attorney Richard Tendler reached with the State Attorney's Office.
