Bulls OF Garrett Zech, who makes his collegiate debut two weeks from tonight at home, has been chosen the American Athletic Conference Preseason Freshman of the Year by d1Baseball.com.
A 15th-round draft choice of the Dodgers who opted for college, Zech is joined by three teammates -- all of whom also were drafted -- on the website's AAC top-10 impact freshmen list. OF Chris Chatfield, a former Spoto High star, is third; while INF Coco Montes is fifth while INF/C Joe Genord is 10th.
A career .400 hitter at Naples High, Zech hit .543 with four home runs, 30 RBI, 10 triples, six doubles and 27 stolen bases as a senior.
