Boynton officer, put on leave, alleges whistleblower retaliation, records show

A Boynton Beach police officer has been placed on administrative leave after he says he "blew the whistle" on one of his police co-workers, according to city documents.

According to an email by Police Chief Jeffrey Katz, the city is prepared to pay Boynton Beach Police Sgt. Leif Broberg $8,876.68 a month as an investigation is completed. Broberg's salary is about $115,000 a year, documents show.

Katz wrote in a May 14 email to a legal assistant for the Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association that Broberg's reassignment is for his benefit.

"The City of Boynton Beach takes complaints of this nature seriously and we are ethically, legally and contractually bound to provide a workplace free of discrimination and harassment," he wrote.
