Interactive: Florida's unusual death penalty law

Of the 32 states that execute inmates, Florida alone requires only seven "yes" votes from a 12-member jury to recommend the death penalty. Delaware and Alabama mandate 10 votes and for the rest it must be unanimous.

The Florida Senate's Criminal Justice Committee analyzed 296 jury votes in capital murder trials held between 2000 and 2012 and found only one in five death penalty recommendations were unanimous.
