With season over, 'wait and see' period begins for Elliott, Gamecocks

COLUMBIA — Shawn Elliott’s voice didn’t crack until he was asked how he wanted to be remembered at South Carolina.

“I want to be remembered for the person I am, and who I always will be,” the Gamecocks’ interim head coach said after clearing his throat. “I’m an emotional guy.”

That was evident following a 37-32 loss to No. 1 Clemson, which wrapped up South Carolina’s worst season since the winless campaign of 1999. During each week since Steve Spurrier resigned Oct. 13, there’s been a game to prepare for to take the focus off the larger question surrounding this program — who will be coaching it next year?
