Gamecocks still confident in freshman QB Brandon McIlwain

Despite South Carolina’s scoring struggles, Gamecocks players remain confident in true freshman quarterbacj Brandon McIlwain’s ability to command the offense.

South Carolina players on both sides of the ball expressed support for McIlwain.

“In baseball, you strike out once, you can’t go up for the next at-bat thinking about a strikeout,” linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams told The State newspaper. “I definitely think he’s going to move on. He’s going to improve this week.”

Through four games, including three starts, McIlwain is 47-of-91 (51.6 percent) for 533 yards and two touchdowns. He’s also gained 91 rushing yards on 40 carries.
