COLUMBIA -- If other schools are interested in hiring Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart as their next head football coach, they haven’t spoken to Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban -- at least, not yet.
In a conference call Sunday night designed to preview the SEC Championship Game, Saban fielded a flurry of questions about Smart, who is believed to be a target at South Carolina and Georgia. The Gamecocks are searching for a successor to Steve Spurrier, who resigned Oct. 13, while the Bulldogs are looking to replace Mark Richt, who was fired Sunday.
So far, no one has reached out to Saban.
