COLUMBIA — Aleighsa Welch went to WNBA camp and showed the same attitude, effort and work ethic which helped make her an honorable mention All-American at South Carolina. But ultimately, she couldn’t change the fact that she was trying to play a post positon at the professional level at 6 feet tall.
“A lot of stuff I could get away with in college, it’s different at the professional level. It’s different,” she said. “A lot of times in college, I could just out-athleticize people, if that is even a term. I could just out-jump them. But when you’re dealing with people in your positon who are 6-2, 6-3, who can jump just as high if not higher than you, you kind of create a little disadvantage for yourself.
