COLUMBIA — The kids lined up at the free throw stripe, one by one dribbling to a cone and heaving shots at a rim lowered to eight feet. In the midst of them was Aleighsa Welch, towering above the rest, but wearing the same grin as the campers she was overseeing at South Carolina’s basketball practice facility.
“I see these kids all the time at games,” said the former Gamecocks great, wearing a whistle around her neck. “These are kids who, they knew my first name and I knew theirs before they even walked through the doors. To be able to connect with them, and have a good time, that means a lot.
