Liverpool knock Spurs out of EFL Cup

Daniel Sturridge scored twice as Liverpool knocked out Tottenham from the EFL Cup with a 2-1 win at Anfield on Tuesday.

Both teams made changes -- 21 in total -- with Spurs captain Eric Dier the only man to have played for either side at the weekend. Youth was the order of the day, with Trent Alexander-Arnold making his Reds debut, but it was the experienced Sturridge who pounced to tuck home the opener in the ninth minute.

Liverpool doubled their lead in the 64th minute as Sturridge raced through onto a ball that split the defence from Georginio Wijnaldum to slot through Michel Vorm's legs and into the net.
